Project Hail Mary and Mystery
This past weekend I had the pleasure of beginning Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, of The Martian fame. I’m not quite halfway through the book, but I can’t think of a time the first 100 pages of a book have propelled me forward so quickly.
It’s all thanks to the mysteries found within the pages. Layers and layers of mystery, peeled back one at a time.
I don’t want to spoil anything here. I started reading the book without even reading the book flap, and I think that’s the way to do it. More mysteries, that way. If you liked The Martian, I think you’ll like this. I’ll know more once I finish it.
I’m always a fan of big stakes, vast world building, and beautiful prose, but there’s just nothing that gets me turning the pages faster than unanswered mysteries. I always need to know what's going on, and rarely have I seen a book do it so cleanly as Andy Weir does here.
